REFERENCE LDSAC 2022.6.23 The songket textiles of Malaysia and Indonesia are made using the supplementary weft weaving technique, whereby exxtra gold or silver threads are interwoven into a single-coloured silk or cotton cloth to produce ornamental patterns. The motifs typically comprise geometric or abstract designs. Songket is a luxury textile closely associated with the royal courts, and is often described in traditional Malay literature as being worn by royalty or being presented as a gift.
