description Lady Addis writes until May, mainly about her husband's health and her family. From May, Addis, still convalescent, resumes writing and his visits to London, working at the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) and attending other meetings and talks; he also visits Paris for the Bank of Morocco meetings and at the end of the year travels with Lady Addis to Egypt for his health. JANUARY Has further operation at home; son Dick wins Oxford scholarship; visited by Norman, 'I have 24 questions to ask which none but he can answer.' 20. MAY Addis's health improves; travels with wife to Morocco; resumes writing the diary; to Paris for Bank of Morocco meeting, 'I fear I am not so strong as I thought I was. Paris was an ill-advised venture and has left me over tired, restless and sleepless.' 28. JUNE Catching up with correspondence; returns to London to work at Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) office and to Chinese Central Railways, British and Chinese Corporation (B&C Corp.). and P&O meetings. JULY Attends University Court, P&O and British and Chinese Corporation (B&C Corp.). meetings and talks at the Treasury and Foreign Office about a Japanese loan to China. AUGUST Has revolving summerhouse prepared at Woodside; makes financial settlement with son Tom; meets Sir Meyrick Hewlett, en route for China as unofficial adviser to Chiang Kai-Shek. SEPTEMBER Involved in an attempt to find a successor to B.J.B. Boothby at the British and Chinese Corporation (B&C Corp.). OCTOBER London University Court, P&O and Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) meetings, 'Barnes is a good sound man but oh! so timid. Grayburn has put the fear of death in the staff', 16; to Paris. NOVEMBER Attends Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) and British and Chinese Corporation (B&C Corp.). meetings; to Egypt with wife.
