Summary: In 1944 Edwin Smith returned to Britain after 5 years in the USA. From 1945 to 1948 he was Editor of Africa, the Journal of the International African Institute (IAI). In November 1946 he set off for Africa to see things for himself and to revisit the scene of his missionary work in Central Africa. He often enquired about 'Native Policy' and in Zambia about an important point to add to his Ila anthropology (lunungu). He kept a journal of his day to day experiences and these observations were recorded in 6 buff notebooks. His entries were dated and he numbered the pages. Includes a few loose inserts.
