scb_admin_history Robert Thomson was a missionary with the London Missionary Society in Tahiti, South Seas, 1838-1851. He was married to Louisa Barff, daughter of Rev Charles Barff, LMS missionary at Huahine, Tahiti, 1816-1864.
scb_custodial_history Extract of letter from W. W. Gill, Sydney, 7 Feb 1895, addressed to Mr [Wardlaw] Thompson and adhered to the inside cover indicates that the manuscript was handed to the London Missionary Society by him in 1895, as a friend of the late Rev R. Thomson who died at sea in [1851] before he could complete the work. The manuscript was given to Gill by the widowed daughter of the author.
